At Applebee's, "there's no place like the neighborhood." But what happens when the neighborhood is infested with critters that touch your food and gross you out?

That's exactly what one Adriene Neico found herself asking about two weeks ago on a Friday night trip out to dinner. On June 10th, she, her husband, and her sister-in-law landed at an Applebee's in Columbia, SC, and all was well and delicious until she saw a POSSUM just chilling out behind the bar crawling behind the sour mix. Like any normal human being (with a social media account), she pulled out her phone and began to record the possum. Check it out here:

As Neico mentioned in her post, the manager didn't seem to prioritize the needs of the customers, and allegedly seemed a little more concerned with the potential for bad PR here. While Neico's husband Jimmie Frazier told WLTX 19 that the manager did eventually try and trap the possum, it sounds like she wasn't trying too hard.

He told reporters: "I said the best thing y'all could do is close this section right here, so that it can't get from behind the bar. So she put a trashcan down that was a rectangular shape. I said ma'am, he'll jump over that."

VICE reported that in the end, the Department of Health and Environmental Control was called in to remove the possum. Fortunately, they "required all potentially affected food items to be discarded before the bar area was 'cleaned and sanitized.'"

Applebee's VP of Operations Elizabeth McGee later told WLTX 19, "The safety of our guests and team members, as well as the cleanliness of our restaurants, is a priority at Applebee’s. This isolated incident occurred following a heavy rain."

So essentially, this can all be chalked up to bad weather. Regardless, Neico screaming "Oh, h*** no" makes me think that she may not be interested in returning to Applebee's.
