Baby Giraffe Being Allowed in the ‘Big Boy’ Enclosure for the First Time Is Too Cute

Remember the first time you rode your bike without training wheels? Well that's probably what it felt like for one baby giraffe who was allowed to leave its 'baby' enclosure for the first time.

The adorable little one was actually a little scared when his "human butlers" opened up a door to a larger space.

The video showed a big day for baby Finn; the day he saw what's beyond his enclosure. Well, sort of. As the video shows, Finn was a little nervous when he saw what was happening.

"Today was a huge day because the human butlers opened the other door!" a voiceover for Finn stated. "That's right [...] the door beyond my birth place was opened today."

Finn couldn't really take it all in. What was going on? Finn was so nervous that he ran back to his mom for protection. Eventually Finn worked up the nerve and took his first step into the new space. Success! Before you could blink Finn was zooming around. He even played a game of "ring around the mommy" before taking off again. He really took to the new enclosure like a fish to water.

The First Days of a Giraffe’s Life

Despite being taller than most humans, little Finn was only 5 days old. Five days! And he's already running around like a much older animal.

That's most likely because giraffes have a much longer gestation period than human's do so that their offspring are strong enough to stand and support themselves at birth. Giraffes can be pregnant for 15 months — almost twice the length of human. But that allows giraffe newborns to be born in the "superman" position; front legs and head first, followed by the rest of their body and then their back legs. Giraffe moms even give birth standing up so as not to damage their baby's very long neck.

Just take a video of Finn after he was born. The little guy was completely ready to take on the world.

The clip shows his mama cleaning him for the first time and Finn discovering that his mom is his own personal "milk bar." Too cute!

Compared to their moms, baby giraffes might seem tiny, but newborns like giraffes can be born standing at a whopping 6 feet tall. Although they may appear large, baby giraffes are typically pretty wobbly on their new legs. Mom and other females will usually move as a pack together to make sure all of their offspring stay safe.

Luckily for Finn, he's definitely safe and sound exactly where he is.
