From Rihanna making an edgy baby bump style statement in Alaïa at the Academy Awards, to Ciara gracing “The Color Purple” movie premiere in Georges Hobeika with her pregnant belly decorated in gold foil flakes, celebrities in 2023 have contributed to reshaping modern maternity fashion.

As 2023 comes to an end, here WWD rounds up the most memorable baby bump red carpet moments of the year.

Rihanna

Rihanna embraced her signature edgy style at the 2023 Academy Awards on March 12 in Los Angeles wearing a custom Alaïa dress that featured sheer fabric covering her belly. The black ensemble also included a long side-train and leather details. In August, Rihanna welcomed her second son, Riot Rose, with partner A$AP Rocky.

Nicole Hocking

Nicole Hocking made her baby bump shine on May 11 in Frisco, Texas, at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards donning a crystal and grid Oscar de la Renta fringe dress alongside her husband Luke Combs. She gave birth to the pair’s second baby, Beau Lee Combs, on Aug. 15.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams made headlines at the 2023 Met Gala when she announced her second pregnancy in a custom Gucci gown. Her glamorous frock with diamanté trim was accessorized with Tiffany & Co. pearl necklaces that aligned with the event’s theme: “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian, who already share daughter Olympia, welcomed their second daughter Adira on Aug. 22.

Caroline Jones attended the 2023 CMA Awards wearing a long-sleeve fishnet gown with sequins throughout, channeling beachwear. She paired the dress with glittering peep-toe heels. This will be Jones and her husband Nick Dana’s first child together.

Jessie J

Jessie J went full-on red to the 2023 Brit Awards, embracing a bold lace top, which bared her belly and leggings by Brielle. To complete her bold ensemble, the songstress added a matching voluminous Selezza London coat with pleated ruffles and Le Silla stilettos. The singer welcomed her baby boy, Sky, on May 12 with boyfriend Chanan Colman.

Ciara

Ciara went for an ethereal vibe at the 2023 “The Color Purple” premiere in a white Georges Hobeika suit. From the designer’s fall 2023 couture collection, the singer’s outfit featured a long cape-train with her pregnant belly decorated in gold flakes.
