Ashleigh Miller-Cross, who is also mother to a 10-month-old daughter, didn’t know she was expecting baby No. 2 when she went grocery shopping six weeks ago at the Bayers Lake Atlantic Superstore in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
When the mom suddenly went into labor in the store bathroom, manager Malcolm Comeau, along with a female customer, helped Miller-Cross deliver her son, Ezra. “I opened the door and Ashleigh was there and the baby was halfway out,” Comeau told Love What Matters. “She just screamed at me, ‘I’m having a baby!’ and I automatically grabbed my phone and dialed 911.” Fortunately for Miller-Cross, the Canadian grocery store also has a medical clinic in the facility.
Jen Matchett of Branches Photography stumbled across a community post on Facebook by Miller-Cross’s cousin asking for donations for the new mom — that gave Matchett the perfect idea. “I offered Ashleigh a free grocery-themed newborn shoot,” Matchett tells Yahoo Beauty. “When I told my friends and family, they thought I was crazy, but it all made sense once the photos were done.”
The photo shoot, which typically would cost around $300, took place when Ezra was two weeks old and involved placing him in an Atlantic Superstore grocery basket (borrowed from the store), along with a jug of milk, a carton of eggs, bunches of carrots and bananas, a French baguette, and a cheeky shopping list.
Yahoo Beauty could not reach Miller-Cross for comment; however Matchett says Ezra took to his shopping basket like a pro. “He started smiling when we placed him inside,” she says. “I wish all my babies were that easy.”
