Alarm bells have been ringing since season two of The Bear, when Ayo Edebiri’s sous chef character Sydney Adamu sported a custom Thom Browne chef’s coat. Where there’s (style) smoke, there’s (fashion) fire.

While she’s been scooping up Emmy and Golden Globes trophies these last few months, Ayo Edebiri has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most cherished new stars—and, in turn, has become one of the many famous, stylish women who’ve been making menswear look cooler than ever.

As Edebiri gears up to host Saturday Night Live this weekend, she was seen outside NBC Studios in Manhattan on Thursday in (almost) head-to-toe Bottega Veneta: a dove-gray caped trench coat, a printed-leather button-up shirt with shiny brown leather tie, printed-leather blue jeans, and thick-soled loafers. She carried a bottle-green version of the label’s woven Andiamo bag, which have become a sort of nouveau men’s accessory thanks to the gaggle of Hollywood dudes who’ve carried one recently—including Edebiri’s The Sweet East costar Jacob Elordi, who is a noted handbag connoisseur.

(And as Elordi demonstrated when he hosted SNL two weeks ago, the gig is also a prime-time opportunity for some luxury product placement. However, while Bottega Veneta did recently commission pseudo-candid paparazzi shots of A$AP Rocky and Kendall Jenner for their latest campaign, a brand spokesperson confirmed to Vogue that Edebiri is not presently involved in their official adverts.)

En route to 30 Rock, she paired the luxury goods with a baseball cap repping Claire Denis’s 1999 film Beau Travail, from the auteurcore brand Human Boy Worldwide. After all, Edebiri is a cherished Letterboxd user—she loves movies!

It was one of a few excellent, menswear-shaped ensembles the actress has sported lately. In September, she attended Proenza Schouler’s spring 2024 runway show in a swaggy black suit and needle-toed loafers. At the Critics Choice Awards in January, she wore a white T-shirt underneath a relaxed, cream-hued suit by The Row, the label founded by Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen that has produced some of the coveted women’s suiting this century. During awards season, Edebiri has opted for fun, offbeat selections: a custom red Prada column with matching satin train at the Golden Globes, or a molded, tulip-shaped black leather Louis Vuitton dress shaped for the Emmys. She’s got a knack for this stuff, and it’s a real treat to witness a fashion gourmand develop her palate.

“One of the fun parts of getting to do this sort of thing is that you get to transform and be these different permutations of yourself,” Edebiri recently told Vogue about dressing for the red carpet. “And maybe in a way that I might not necessarily choose to present myself when I’m working.”
