Axel Arigato debuted a new sneaker, the Onyx, on Friday. The style was created by the brand’s in-house design team, which was not only influenced by retro basketball silhouettes worn in the 1980s and 1990s but also by the ever-stylish hip-hop scene.

The contemporary low-top style is crafted with a combination of soft, premium semi-aniline leather, mesh, lycra and polyester. It features a wide profile and thick sole unit and boasts subtle branded details throughout, from the Arigato on the midsole to the “EST. 2014” mark on the heel. Additionally, a lace tongue eye-stay pays tribute to classic basketball models.
Each shoe is designed with a white foundation and off-white midsole detailing, plus gray outsole accents. The breathable mesh appears on the side panels, as well as atop the tongue region, while the collar features a ribbed texture.
Retailing for $365, the shoe is offered in both men’s and women’s sizes. It comes in “White/Beige” and “White/Green” for both genders, as well as “White/Pink” for women and “White/Maroon” for men.
To promote the new sneaker, Axel Arigato released a campaign shot by Tyrell Hampton in New York with model Havana Rose Liu, who is known for her work in the film “Bottoms.”
The introduction of the all-new Onyx follows the release of Axel Arigato’s “SpongeBob SquarePants” collaboration last month. No stranger to partnerships, the Swedish brand founded in 2014 has also released collections with Keith Harring Studio, “Pokémon” and Mulberry.
The Onyx is available to shop online and in stores at $365.
