Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Recruits New Head Writer

After dropping both its previous lead writer on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Marvel has hired a successor.

Michael Waldron will lead writing efforts on the film, which hasn’t budged from its May 1, 2026 release date. Waldron is a Marvel mainstay, having created the Loki series on Disney+ before going on to write Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Not only is Waldron spearheading Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but the movie the follows it, too: Avengers: Secret Wars.

With a release date of May 7, 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be the culmination of years of interconnected Marvel storytelling across films and TV, collectively termed the Multiverse Saga. And with Waldron’s appointment, he’s now an integral part of the phase.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty didn’t just lose its writer. Recently, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty director dropped out, with Destin Daniel Cretton leaving to focus his efforts on a Wonder Man TV show, and a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

A new director has not yet been announced.
