Though it was nearly 100 degrees in New York City yesterday, that didn’t stop all the coolest people you follow on Instagram from heading to a diner in Williamsburg, dressed in all-black and colorful tweed. The occasion, of course, was the opening of Chanel’s Lucky Chance Diner, a dazzling fragrance activation complete with burgers, fries, double-C ice cream cones, and retro jukeboxes.
Ava Philippe, 23-year-old daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, and one of the aforementioned coolest people—let Bazaar tag along as she got ready for the event with her makeup artist Quinn Murphy and hairstylist Jennifer Yepez. “As a creative person, I’ve always loved the art of makeup, and I often treat doing my makeup like painting,” Philippe tells us. “I really enjoy learning new techniques and exploring trends, and I’ve been fortunate to receive so many great tips and tricks from all the amazing makeup artists I’ve gotten to work with over the years.”
Ahead, get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how Philippe and her team pulled off a picture-perfect and heat-proof beauty look—plus, shop all the products they used.
CHANEL ULTRA LE TEINT Ultrawear All-Day Comfort Flawless Finish Foundation
"I applied CHANEL Ultra Le Teint Ultrawear All-Day Comfort Flawless Finish Foundation in B30 with a wet sponge to give flawless coverage," says Murphy.
CHANEL LES BEIGES Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream
"I used the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream in Soleil Tan Bronze along the edges of the face to add invisible and soft definition and give a warm glow."
"I set the makeup with Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder in 12 using a brush and then again with the Chanel powder puff in the T-Zone. It’s 95 degrees today! The Puff really works the power into the skin for more mattifying."
"I filled in her brows with CHANEL Stylo Sourcils Waterproof Defining Longwear Eyebrow Pencil in Blonde Doré giving her natural arch a little more depth."
CHANEL MULTI-EFFECT QUADRA EYESHADOW Les 4 Ombres Byzance in Parure Vénitienne.
"For the eyes I used all four shades of the new Chanel Les 4 Ombres Byzance in Parure Vénitienne. I applied the brown shade in the crease of the eye to create definition. Mixing the two top shades—a gold and peach, and applied it to the center and the entire lid. I placed the bottom right, frosty-blue shadow in the inner corners of the eye to open the eyes."
"Next, I used Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense on the lash line and flicked out the corners for a cat eye."
CHANEL LE VOLUME DE CHANEL Mascara
"Lastly on the eyes, I used Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir on the top and bottom lashes."
Chanel JOUES CONTRASTE Powder Blush
"For the blush, I mixed CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rouge Profond and Jersey, applying them to the apple of the cheeks and towards the ears."
CHANEL BAUME ESSENTIEL Multi-Use Glow Stick
"I placed Chanel Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Rosée on the top of the cheek bones and bridge of the nose."
CHANEL ROUGE COCO ULTRA HYDRATING LIP COLOUR in Gabrielle
"For her classic red lip, I used Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Gabrielle."
L'Oreal Paris Bond Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
"First I applied L’Oreal Paris Ever Pure Bond Repair Collection just from the mid shaft to ends," says Yepez.
L'Oreal Paris 21-in-1 Leave In Conditioner Spray
"I also used L’Oreal Paris Ever Pure 21-in-1 Color Caring Spray."
L'Oreal Professionnel Full Volume Extra
"Then I applied L’Oréal VOLUME ENVY EXTRA mousse all over on Ava’s damp hair and rough dried it to keep the volume and texture," adds the hairstylist.
L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray
"To finish the look, I sprayed L’Oreal Paris Elnett Hairspray on her curtain bangs to keep them in place and then just around her face to ensure that the look stayed in place."
