Australia's Largest Ski Resort Records First Snowfall Of Season

With the arrival of pond skims and closing celebrations at ski resorts across North America, it's easy to forget that winter is approaching in the Southern Hemisphere.

Or, it was easy to forget until Mother Nature issued a reminder at Australia's largest ski resort: Perisher.

The dusting of snow comes roughly two months ahead of Perisher's 2024 opening day—June 8th—so there's still a good deal of time before the Australian ski season starts.

Yet, the arrival of an early storm likely feels refreshing for Australian skiers who endured a difficult season last winter.

While Perisher typically plans to remain open until early October, it closed earlier than usual last winter in September due to a lack of snow. At the end of the ski season, the Guardian reported that Australia's 2023 winter was the warmest on record.

Unfortunately, it's far too early to say definitively if the upcoming ski season will be better than the last down under. That leaves us with something most skiers are intimately familiar with—superstition.

Spoon under the pillow? Snow dances? You know what to do.
