Australia's Largest Ski Resort Hit With First Major Snowstorm Of The Season

Conditions were less-than-ideal for Perisher, Australia's opening last weekend. Very little snow covered the slopes, and the resort was only able to open a small run serviced by a moving carpet lift.

Thankfully, it appears that the snow gods have heard the prayers of the thousands of Aussie skiers and riders. Perisher is reporting 27cm (10.6 inches) of new snow in the last couple of days with more expected throughout the week.

Check out some of the photos captured earlier today at Perisher:

The resort has just one trail and two lifts open, but the upcoming storms should hopefully allow for additional terrain to open.

According to the Long-Range Weather Forecast on Perisher's website, the resort should see anywhere from 23-40cm (9-16in) of new snow over the next seven days.

That's not a ton of snow, but cold temps brought on by the storm should allow Perisher to fire up their robust snowmaking system.

I'm selfishly hoping that the Australian, New Zealand, and South American ski seasons get underway quickly... It's hard keeping the ski content flowing in the middle of June. I need my friends in the Southern half of the planet to start churning out some clips!

Here's hoping it keeps on snowing.

Perisher is Australia's largest ski resort in terms of skiable terrain. The resort is spread out over 7 peaks and 4 separate base villages.
