Australian TikTok Star Caitlyn Loane Dies At Age19
The farming community on TikTok was rocked this week by the sudden death of rising TikTok star Caitlyn Loane. A fourth-generation farmer and agricultural activist, Loane died by suicide earlier this week. The 19-year-old shared videos of her adventures on her family's northern Tasmanian farm with over 51,000 followers.
"Words can't describe our loss," Loane's family said in a statement, the Daily Mail reported. "She was a lovely, crazy young woman who was an invaluable member of our family," her father, Philip Loane, told the Mercury.
Loane worked on her parent's 600-hectare cattle farm as a livestock manager, chronicling her cowgirl adventures on TikTok and serving as a role model for others in her community. Loane's mother, Richele, said she "was so talented and she loved mentoring younger people," per news.com.au. "Her smile lit up the room."
Loane also "wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty—in some photos she has mud up to her knees," Richele said. Last month, Loane joined TasWeekend during AgFest Tasmania to help mentor young cattle judges, per the Daily Mail.
"In 2018, I realized that school wasn’t giving me the skills and experience I needed, so I applied to the Sunday Creek Cattle Station, in the Northern Territory, so I could gain experience and learn more," Loane said in June. "Up there the properties are huge and they muster with helicopters and on horseback. It was character building and I had to adopt a great work ethic which I apply to my own enterprise here at home."
Loane was also a talented athlete who played for the Devonport Football Club. The organization shared a touching post on Facebook: "It is with deep sadness and regret that the Devonport Football Club acknowledges the sudden passing of one of our female players, Caitlyn Loane."
"The Board, the members, players, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters of the Devonport Football Club convey our sincere condolences and warmest thoughts to Caitlyn's family and friends, which, of course, includes her teammates in the DFC Senior Women's team," the post continued. "The past week has put into context what really matters in life, and has reminded us all that football, as unifying as it is, is just a game after all."
"The priority of the Devonport Football Club at present is to provide an empathetic, supportive network to all associated with the club, with particular focus on those most affected by the tragic passing of Caitlyn."
Friends grieved on Facebook, including a classmate of Loane's. "Oh how my heart hurts to know you have left us all, the bright, bubbly, beautiful but crazy girl," the post read. "I will never ever forget the fond moments and memories we have together." Another friend mentioned Loane's "bubbly personality and a heart of gold."
Fans also paid their condolences in the comments of Loane's last TikTok video, which showed a handful of pictures of her on the farm with the caption, "Who's driving to Tasmania #womaninag." "Rest easy beautiful girl ♥️," one comment read. "Rest In Peace girl, you did tassie proud 🕊🤍," another user wrote.
