Australian Pop Singers the Veronicas Were Removed From a Qantas Flight but We're Not Sure Why

Some celebrities can be very high maintenance when it comes to flying, but not all stars are total divas in the sky. In fact, sometimes they’re just trying to follow the rules just like the rest of us.

An Australian pop duo had a bizarre experience on their flight from Sydney to Brisbane on Sunday which led to the singers being removed from the aircraft for reasons not entirely known, according to USA Today.

Jessica and Lisa Origliasso, who make up the band The Veronicas, were apparently on Qantas Flight QF516 when they were approached by a flight attendant to adjust their bags in the overhead bin, reported The Guardian.

“We actually already had our bag up in the overhead,” said the duo on their official Instagram account. “The female flight attendant wanted Lisa’s bag spun around.” This post has been re-posted by a fan account with screenshots of the comments.

The Origliasso’s barely clear five feet in height each, so adjusting their bags was quite difficult since the bin was just a little too high. “Lisa asked the attendant if she could help assist her, because she couldn’t reach it,” the singers wrote. “The attendant said it was against company policy. And a lovely man behind us helped instead.”

The other passenger apparently helped get the singers’ bags in order and everything seemed to be settled after that until a flight attendant brought over the “manager,” according to their post, who started to “ lecture us about company policy.”

When the singers asked for the crew members’ names, they were told that security had been called to remove them from the flight. “We were so confused as to why asking for their names resulted in us being removed by 3 federal police,” they wrote. “We are still in shock and so upset … It’s so scary they can call federal police on people without any reason or explanation.”

Qantas said in a statement to USA Today that the singers were being “disruptive and refused to follow crew instructions.” However, this statement seems to clash with statements from other passengers.

Matt Day, a fellow passenger, tweeted that “there was nothing belligerent about the sisters. The QANTAS crew decided they wanted to flex their muscles & were totally over the top.” He also added that while the singers were being “lectured,” the other crew members were helping other passengers with bags.

Other passengers have reached out to the singers on Twitter and Instagram, also stating that the incident was an overreaction.

The Origliasso’s posted an update to their original status, saying they will make no more comments about the matter and will be seeking legal action.

According to USA Today, the singers were placed on a later flight to Brisbane.
