Australian Long-Haired Guinea Pigs Have Their Very Own Show and It's Amazing

On August 19, in Dubbo, Australia, the Australian National Cavy Show took place and consider us green with envy that we weren't also in attendance. Especially for the judging of the long haired guinea pigs.

In a previous video posted by TikTok user @Travis856, you can see how one of these shows looks, complete with these guinea pigs who don't even look real!

Do you remember the Star Trek episode from 1967 entitled "The Trouble With Tribbles" because that is what these little Guinea Pigs look like, tribbles.

These little guys also resemble wigs. They must be so well-trained because they don't even move! TikTok users are floored by these guinea pigs and @Brent comments, "I thought this was a wig store!" @Thepack adds, "These are wild toupees and you can’t convince me otherwise." @Gobbert replies, "Such well behaved wigs!"

Guinea wigs!

Central Western Daily reported on the show August with a comment from Melanie Barnes, chairman of the National Cavy Show Committee. "Like all show animals, there are a set of standards of perfection for guinea pigs. The judges have been trained and have learned those standards, which vary across the breeds.

"For the long-haired breeds it's all about the hair - the texture, the thickness, the length, is the coat soft and shiny. They also look at their face, their eyes, their ears and if they're in good health."

Asking a very important question was @Certified who queried "Do they wear their hair up for their day to day lives?"

Well, here's an article on how you care for long haired guinea pig hair. Owners also wrap their guinea pig's hair, and here's a tutorial on how you do that!

All we know is that we will be keeping our eyes out for any guinea pig shows in our area. They seem almost as fun as cat shows!
