There’s no question that the winter weather wreaks havoc on your skin, especially if you’re someone who enjoys outdoor activities. Add on top of that ultra-dehydrating indoor heat, and you have the perfect recipe for skin that’s seriously lacking in moisture. As someone who experiences dry skin even during humid summer months, I was intrigued at the opportunity to test a mask that promised both deep hydration and anti-aging benefits, and even more intrigued that its ingredients come from across the globe.

You likely know Australia for its beautiful coastal views and mega cities, but one beauty brand introduced another lesser-known appeal: sustainably sourced Australian botanical ingredients. Australian-born brand Sand & Sky features ingredients such as pink clay, emu apple, and Tasmanian spring water, and packs them into each of their skin care products. This time, I tried out its Tasmanian Spring Water Intense Hydrating Mask to soothe and moisturize my flaking skin, while smoothing fine lines over time.

The hydrating mask helps to protect your skin from damaging effects like cold winds or UV rays while repairing it with botanical ingredients. It includes spring water from Tasmania to help balance the skin’s pH, Hyaluronic Acid and Squalane to provide deep hydration, and Tasmanian Fermented Sea Kelp to soothe redness, prevent moisture loss, and build elasticity. Ingredients like cornflower also help to repair skin after exposure to the sun. All ingredients come from suppliers in Australia that use sustainable farming and harvesting practices.

When I first used the Tasmanian Spring Water Intense Hydrating Mask, I used it just as that — a mask. I applied the creamy product all over my just-cleansed face with the included applicator brush, and left it on for 10 minutes. It glides on easily and doesn’t harden while it’s on like most masks do. After the 10 minutes was up, I gently removed it with a warm, damp washcloth and massaged any excess product into my skin. Not only did it not cause any redness or irritation, which some products do to my sensitive skin, it left my skin feeling softer and smoother than it’s felt all winter.

To keep up with the hydration, I use the mask about two times per week, but it can be used on an as-needed basis. The bonus? The Intense Hydrating Mask can also be used at bedtime as an overnight, hydrating sleep mask, so you wake up with softer and more moisturized skin. You can apply the mask the same way as you would in a 10-minute routine; just be sure to use a thin layer of product versus the generous application required for a 10-minute routine.

As I run my fingers over my skin now, I’m left with a buttery-soft feel that is free of its typical flaking. I also noticed a subtle reduction in the deepening lines on my face. And shoppers have found similar results too, with one shopper calling the Intense Hydrating Mask “a lifesaver” while they were on an island vacation and their skin was overexposed to the sun. Another shopper also appreciated the moisturizing benefits, sharing that it “really gives the skin a drink.” They continued that their “dehydration lines [are] gone,” and that the product is “the perfect texture [and their] skin looks amazing.” Shoppers also like that while it’s a thick, deeply hydrating mask, it’s still “lightweight and doesn’t leave [them] feeling greasy at all,” according to one reviewer.

For a double dose of moisture Sand & Sky’s new Marshmallow Toner not only cleanses and exfoliates, it also offers added hydration thanks to ingredients including marshmallow root extract to soothe and moisturize. Hyaluronic acid, which is absorbed by skin, also provides additional, hydrating benefits while preventing the loss of moisture. The toner can be used morning or night across the face and neck before you follow with moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin, the brand suggests sticking with one use a day.
