While Austin’s A-list status has been established by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Elvis, he’s actually been working for years. Like, this man didn’t suffer through Switched at Birth and Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure to not get paid. So it’s hardly a huge shock that Austin is worth millions. Several millions in fact. How Much Did Austin Butler Make for Elvis?
Reliable sites like the Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Deadline and Forbes haven’t reported on Austin’s Elvis salary, but there are rumors out there claiming that he made $700,000 for the role—which makes sense because he was fairly unknown at the time. Something Elvis’s casting director confirmed.
“I had a list of my own people. When we got to Austin, I said, ‘This is your Elvis,’ and Baz just looked at me,” casting director Denise Chamian told Variety. “It’s a pretty big statement to make. Shortly thereafter, I had Austin go on tape and that started the process of Baz meeting with him, doing a workshop in New York and we tested him along with other actors. Until we did the screen tests, I don’t think it was clear to anybody, necessarily, that it was going to be Austin. There were a lot of factors to really consider. He was also pretty much unknown out of that group of guys.”

Meanwhile, we mustn’t forget that Austin also appeared on The Shannara Chronicles, which was a show on MTV about a buncha hot people trying to rid the world of an ancient demon. Honestly, it sounds incredible, and—yet again—Austin’s salary is unknown. However! MTV has been known to pay as little as $2,000 to its stars (Laguna Beach) to as much as $150,000 per episode (the heyday of Jersey Shore).

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Austin has $4 million in the bank. Seems like a lot considering he “only” got paid $700,000 for his most famous role—but this could have something to do with the fact that he’s starring in the upcoming Dune 2 and presumably commanded a pretty high post-Elvis paycheck.
