Who Is Aubrey Plaza’s Husband? Everything We Know About Jeff Baena

Aubrey Plaza is widely recognized for Parks and Recreation, Emily the Criminal and—of course—The White Lotus.

Most recently, the 39-year-old actress was nominated for a 2023 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The ceremony will take place on Monday, January 15, on Fox and will be hosted by actor Anthony Anderson.

Despite her popularity, few Plaza-stans know much about the actress’s other half slash husband, Jeff Baena, who’s also in the entertainment industry. “I think that when you’re with someone that is in your field, they understand what you're dealing with on a deeper level,” Plaza told People magazine. “So obviously, you are able to support each other and really understand kind of the journey that we’re both on.”

The writer slash director is the mastermind behind titles like I Heart Huckabees, Digging for Fire and Horse Girl. He has also worked with Plaza on several projects, including Life After Beth (the 2014 movie, not the Hulu show starring Amy Schumer), Joshy, The Little Hours and Spin Me Round.

During the pandemic, he and Plaza created a show together, titled Cinema Toast. “Our house became this strange post-production facility and he's downstairs on his Zooms or on his sessions and I’m upstairs editing, we’re just going back and forth,” Plaza told People. “Yeah, it was very us. We were not baking sourdough bread, but we were sifting through hours of old movies and footage and re-cutting them together and just letting our minds go on a trip. So it was great.”

2. When Did They Start Dating?

Unfortunately, we don’t know very much about their relationship because they’ve kept personal details under wraps. However, we do know that they started dating in 2011.

“I’d say it’s an amazing experience to work with your partner in this way. I’ve worked with Jeff since his first movie,” Plaza told MovieFreak.com. “I’ve seen him evolve, and I’ve seen him grow. It’s a really special dynamic that we have. It’s challenging at times, but it’s also really rewarding to do something together like this.”

Plaza could bring Baena to the 75th annual Emmy Awards, where she’s nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The White Lotus. She’s up against Jennifer Coolidge for The White Lotus, Elizabeth Debicki for The Crown, Meghann Fahy for The White Lotus, Sabrina Impacciatore for The White Lotus, Rhea Seehorn for Better Call Saul, J. 4. Are They Married?

In May 2021, Plaza revealed that she secretly tied the knot with Baena. The White Lotus star announced the exciting news by referring to Baena as her “darling husband” on Instagram. The caption read, “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italia to cause some more trouble.”

5. Do They Have Any Upcoming Projects?

Not to our knowledge. But according to Baena, he doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. “It’s all I ever want to do; it felt really comfortable and fun,” he told Seensome. “I’ve been a writer for twelve years now, and it was always a means to an end, I never wanted to be a writer, I wanted to be a director so this was always my intention and it felt right.”
