The Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially expanding on Disney+. Fresh off new releases like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — which drops next week — phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU will roll out shortly. With it will come tons of new releases, including Agatha: Coven of Chaos, a spin-off of WandaVision. The show will follow Agatha Harkness, a witch who once disguised herself as Wanda Maximoff’s nosey neighbor, Agnes. On WandaVision, Agatha became obsessed with harnessing “chaos magic” from Wanda — who is also known as the Scarlet Witch.

Comedian Kathryn Hahn will reprise her beloved role as Agatha in the series. “The fact that I get to do all of this — with these actors, with [producer and director Matt Shakman], and play with all of these different characters — it’s a crazy dream that this is my way into this world. It’s bananas. And now with my kids, maybe I will have a little bit of cred! Not much yet, because I’m still a big old nerd to them, but maybe I will be a little bit cooler in their eyes after [WandaVision] comes out,” Kathryn said in a Disney+ press release ahead of WandaVision’s release in 2021.

So, if you want to know everything about the upcoming Disney+ series, look no further. Ahead, find cast info, release dates, trailers, behind-the-scenes pics, and more for Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

When does Agatha: Coven of Chaos come out?

There’s no official release date for Agatha: Coven of Chaos just yet, but according to a report by Variety, it’s expected to hit Disney+ sometime in 2024 due to production delays from the Writers Guild of America's ongoing strike. It will most likely be released after another Marvel project, Ironheart, which was originally set to be released before Coven of Chaos.

The streaming platform will likely release new episodes in weekly installments, as it did with previous Marvel series.

Has Agatha: Coven of Chaos started filming?

Confirmed: Production has started. On January 19, Heartstopper star Joe Locke took to his Instagram Stories to share a photo from set, according to ComicBook. The snapshot featured a black director’s chair emblazoned with a “Agnes of Westview” logo. We’re unsure if that means the series’ title has changed — but we’ll for sure keep an eye out for updates from Disney+. Joe soon took the photo down from his Stories, but it was up long enough to confirm that the series is in production.

The timeline would match up with what leading lady revealed during the Chicago International Film Festival in October 2022. The actress shared that the series was nearly a month out from shooting, which means that production likely began in November or December 2022. “We’re in the middle of getting the coven ready and it’s gonna be very delicious,” she said at the time. “We start shooting in about a month.”

Who is in the Agatha: Coven of Chaos cast?

Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness in the upcoming series — but she’s not the only MCU actor making a return. Per Variety, Emma Caulfield Ford is set to reprise her role as Dottie from WandaVision. Debra Jo Rupp (yes, Kitty Forman from That ’70s Show *and* That ’90s Show!) joins the spin-off as well, as reported by Deadline on January 3. ICYMI, Rupp starred as Mrs. Hart in WandaVision for five episodes. Marvel has yet to comment on the details of her role, but it’s likely the actress will return as Mrs. Hart once again.

On December 21, 2022, Deadline reported that Broadway legend Patti LuPone will star in the upcoming Disney+ series. The details of her role are unknown, but the outlet suggests that she may be portraying a witch.

One month earlier, Variety broke the news that Heartstopper star Joe Locke will also join the MCU in the spin-off. There isn’t much info on his role either, but sources told Deadline that he will play “a gay teen with a dark sense of humor.”

Deadline also reported that Saturday Night Live alumna Sasheer Zamata, Raising Dion’s Ali Ahn, and The Staircase’s Maria Dizzia will join the cast alongside Aubrey Plaza, who is rumored to play a villainous role. Like the other stars, the roles of each new cast member are currently under wraps.

The head writer and executive producer of WandaVision, Jac Schaefer, will serve in the same roles for Agatha.

What will Agatha: Coven of Chaos be about?

It’s obvious that Agatha is entering her main character era in this new series, but other than that, Disney and Marvel have been tight-lipped about the production and what it could potentially entail. The Film & TV Industry Alliance database contains a short synopsis of the upcoming series, as follows:

Agatha Harkness is one of Earth’s most powerful witches, and lives for centuries, her aging slowed thanks to magical means. She becomes the governess to the First Family’s son Franklin Richards and tutor to Wanda Maximoff, AKA Scarlet Witch.

There has yet to be any official confirmation from the showrunners on whether the database's description is accurate. Luckily, most Marvel movies and TV shows are loosely based on source material in comic books, so Agatha: Coven of Chaos may very well take inspiration from there.

What has the cast said about Agatha: Coven of Chaos?

The White Lotus'Aubrey Plaza, who's also tied to the Marvel project, recently dished about her time working on Agatha: Coven of Chaos in a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.

"Coven of Chaos was so fun. I wanted very much to work with Kathryn Hahn, I think she's so great. And without saying anything really, I had a blast," she said. "I loved my character in that as well, and I think it's the most elevated Marvel material that's out there. So, it was cool to jump into that world with those people specifically."

Details about her character are still under wraps, but we can't wait to see them unfold as we near the series premiere.
