When you know, you know.

And Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth didn’t need much convincing. “There was no lightbulb moment,” Chris told Elle. "From the first time we met, we just made sense. She's fun. She's outgoing, and she has a sense of humor and a passionate attitude toward life, which is nice to try to keep up with."

The couple dated for less than a year and while on vacation with their families in 2010 thought, “why not?” Since everyone they loved was around, they got married then and there.

This isn’t all that surprising, according to Rachel Lang, an intuitive astrologer. “We see a lot of attraction between these two just off the bat,” she explains. Elsa’s Sun is in Cancer and Chris’ is in Leo—a biggie since those signs are right next to each other in the zodiac. Plus, Elsa’s Sun interacts with a ton of the planets in Chris’ birth chart.

These are all good things, but it can also mean Elsa’s planets are playing a supporting role to Chris’. “Elsa might feel like Chris is in the spotlight and sometimes, she’s in the shadows,” Lang explains. “The Sun rules Leo, and the Moon rules Cancer—Cancer can feel as if they’re reflecting the light of their Leo partner. We see [Elsa] shining and glowing, of course, but we don’t know if she always feels that way.”

But that's something Chris has caught onto. He told GQ, “In terms of work, [Elsa’s] certainly given up more than I have” in order to support his career and their family. Since Elsa’s career took off earlier than Chris’, she’s given him the space to lean into the momentum of fame even though that means more and more time away from home.

Still, like the trials in any healthy relationship, this hasn’t watered down Elsa and Chris' staying power. It’s just something else the couple’s had to work through to come out stronger on the other side. Recognizing Elsa’s sacrifice, Chris stepped back from the spotlight in June 2019 to focus on this family—one of many ways the couple’s made things work.

Ahead, Lang breaks down every aspect of Elsa and Chris’ birth charts to explain how and why the cosmos have deemed them lasting partners.

Because of Jupiter, their romance still feels like a whirlwind more than a decade later.

"[Elsa and Chris] have the makings of a power couple with this influence," says Lang. That influence she's talking about? Elsa's Sun on Chris' Jupiter, the planet of fortune and blessings. Lang likes to call Jupiter the Santa Clause of the solar system.

"There’s a sense of enjoyment with these two. Jupiter/Sun aspects relate to shared experiences of success and abundance," says explains. "They can have fun together and feel better in one another’s presence." But, that upbeat influence can make the pair indulgent, so she advises taking things slowly and keeping their limits in mind.

Pluto brings the passion.

"Elsa’s Sun is in a challenging square aspect with Chris’s Pluto, which can be a challenging aspect for a relationship because it introduces themes of power and control," says Lang.

Reading the word "challenge" might make you wary, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in astrology. Challenges and power aspects bring passion. It can allow couples to get really steamy and playful together. That said, it can also mean friction, but when there's trust, that's unlikely.

Saturn brings them dedication and Venus is packing in the romance.

"Saturn represents stability and the ability to work through problems with dedication," Lang explains. And Chris’s Saturn is at an interesting angle from Elsa’s Mercury and Sun, making it likely that the couple takes turns taking the lead in the relationship.

Then you've got Elsa’s Venus in Leo just a few degrees away from Chris' Mars in Cancer. "This is a very hot combination when we add it to all the other factors," says Lang. "It’s no wonder they have been in the relationship for so long. They have enough tension to keep things interesting and enough attraction to keep their relationship from fizzling out."
