Multiplayer gaming for older Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Trials and Heroes of Might and Magic games will be switched off in January, according to Ubisoft.

The publisher will pull the plug on January 25 for four Assassin’s Creed games; Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Liberations HD, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations.

“Decommissioning the online services for older games is something we do not take lightly, however, it is also a necessity as the technology behind these services becomes outdated,” said Ubisoft.

“As a result, we will decommision the online services of several games across different platforms on 25 January 2024.”

Also getting the chop are online and multiplayer services for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Heroes of Might and Magic 4, Splinter Cell: Conviction, NCSI, RUSE and Trials Evolution.

The latest Assassin's Creed game, Mirage, was praised for jettisoning the bloat of previous games when it was released earlier this month, although it's far from the best in the series.
