Ashtabula County District Library to share information on services

May 1—ASHTABULA — Representatives of the Ashtabula County District Library will be on hand at this weekend's Ashtabula County Home and Family Show to tell visitors about what the libraries have to offer.

The show is set for Saturday and Sunday at Ashtabula Towne Square in Ashtabula Township.

Rebecca Moisio, marketing coordinator for the ACDL, said the library regularly participates in the event, and in past years, they have brought a pop-up library to the show, and also generally have a craft of some sort for attendees to participate in.

"This is a big event we usually like to do every year, because it gets us out in the community for a couple days in a row," she said.

This year, the library's presence at the show will focus on informing the public about what the library has to offer, Moisio said.

"We're more than just books now," she said. "We have a great library of things, we've got the expansion going on in Geneva, we've got a new bookmobile happening.

"So really, we just want this as an opportunity to tell the community what the library has to offer them."

Moisio said library staff has recently developed the term "library of things."

"We've always had things available for checkout that are not your typical library item," she said. "So we've always had [wifi] hotspots available that you can check out ... we added recently Roku devices, so you can check out a streaming device and get Disney+ for a week, or HBO for a week, which is awesome."

The Ashtabula Public Library now has a tool wall, with a variety of tools available for checkout, Moisio said.

"We are also getting ready to develop a board game collection, which is super fun," she said. "We are partnering with In The Zone Gaming, and they donated a huge amount of board games for us, that we're processing right now.

"You can get lawn games, we've got a giant Connect Four game, we've got bocce ball, we have soccer balls, soccer nets, volleyball, we've got a pickleball set that you could borrow from the library."

Moisio said bookmobile stops are also taking place regularly.

"We're really excited, the new bookmobile should be coming at the end of August, and we should hopefully get to reveal that at the end of summertime," she said.

Earlier this week, a groundbreaking took place for the Geneva Public Library.

"We've got more than what you think," Moisio said.
