Ashley Tisdale Discusses “Suite Life” and Kissing Zac Efron

Years after starring in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Ashley Tisdale is spilling all about how the show played a role in one of her worst on-screen smooches.

Ashley made a major acting name for herself as Maddie Fitzpatrick on the Disney Channel series, and as she recently divulged in an interview with Elle, her character was once required her to share a kiss with Zac Efron. The pair managed to make their TV liplock seem effortless, but Ashley told Elle that because she was besties with Zac at the time, and considered him a brother, it felt totally awkward to smooch. OK, fair.

In addition to the tight bond she shared with her former High School Musical costar, she explained that Zac's version of a smooch wasn't exaaaaactly appropriate for the Disney Channel. “At the time, he was used to acting on like, Warner Brothers, which is CW, and we were on Disney Channel," Ashley said. “And so...he tried kissing me with his tongue, and I was like, get away from me. I closed my mouth so fast. I was like, 'this is Disney Channel, we don’t kiss like that on Disney Channel.'"

Sloppy smooches aside, the pair have continued to remain close. Ashley previously celebrated Zac's birthday with a shoutout to their HSM days, and Zac has even expressed an interest in potentially making a cameo on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Here's hoping!

Fortunately for Suite Life fans, Ashley also shared some more gossip regarding her former costars. At one point, the interview required Ashley to choose whether she'd spend three weeks in a remote location with Cole or Dylan Sprouse. For her answer, she chose Dylan, explaining that Cole doesn't always text back. Uh oh, looks like the Riverdale star better check his unread messages.
