Ashley Graham is adding “designer” to her impressive resume. The supermodel and body positivity activist teamed up with Pronovias to collaborate on a new, inclusive bridal collection dubbed “Ashley Graham x Pronovias,” which the wedding dress brand says is “cut and crafted to guarantee the perfect stylish fit for every body type.”

Graham’s exclusive collaboration boasts a 16-piece collection ranging from sizes 0 to 34, and it was created with her own personal experience in mind. “I’ve wanted to work on a size inclusive bridal collection for some time, as I know from my personal experience that curvy women have less options in this space,” Graham tells The Knot in an exclusive interview. “With this year being my 10th wedding anniversary, I thought it was perfect timing to collaborate with Pronovias, as they are leaders in the bridal industry and are committed to size inclusivity.”

According to The Knot 2019 Fashion Study for Size Inclusivity, the majority of survey respondents recalled the wedding dress shopping experience as “nerve-racking and emotional.” About 46 percent of women sizes 0 to 10 and 50 percent of those sizes 12 to 32 said they experienced a form of anxiety prior to dress shopping. Before even trying on gowns, women sizes 12 and up were twice as likely to feel self-conscious about the entire wedding dress shopping experience.

Graham worked closely with the style team to come up with pieces that she describes to us as “classic, timeless and fashionable, with a fit for every body type.” The model-turned-entrepreneur’s line is described as representative of her own personal aesthetic with prices ranging from $1,000 to $3,500.

Her own personal experience served as a strong launch point for her designs. “When shopping for my dress, I had limited time and in-store options, which made it difficult to find that perfect dress. I wanted something classic that would flatter and celebrate my body, but shopping for wedding gowns off the rack isn’t always easy for curvy girls,” she explains. “Therefore, the main priority was to offer a wide range of different styles and sizes for all body types, and the second priority was comfortability. We also kept undergarments top of mind and even built in shapewear so you don’t have to think about it later.”

Graham isn’t the only voice in the bridal industry to shift the body positivity conversation. Model Hunter McGrady, the cover girl of The Knot Fall 2019 Fashion Issue, decided to custom-design her wedding dress after her shopping experience ahead of her 2019 nuptials. “I saw the dresses that were available out there,” she previously disclosed. “I wasn’t incredibly impressed, because I wanted a very specific style that was only available in straight sizes [00 to 12].”

In totality, Graham has advice for any bride marrying this year and undergoing the dress shopping experience. “Beautiful bride, you will find the perfect dress,” she concludes to The Knot. “Try on everything and go in with an open mind. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone or try a new style. When you’re trying on gowns and looking at yourself in the mirror, imagine wearing it on your big day. If the dress fills you with happiness and confidence…it’s the one!”
