Presenters and winners alike at Thursday's Daily Front Row Media Awards used the mic to rally the fashion community. In a genuine appeal, Paris Jackson asked to pause the teleprompter mid-speech to call women to the polls. In the midst of her ad-lib and laugh out loud speech, Amy Schumer asked the audience to call their senators. And Fashion Force awardee Ashley Graham stayed true to her title when she told the crowd pointblank that it was our responsibility to drive change. She said embracing different body types, skin colors, and abilities is not a trend, but a movement. Preach.
Even Brandon Maxwell’s off-the-cuff speech spoke to the importance of empowering others, which visionary award winner Nicola Formichetti did for Brandon throughout his career. Stefano Tonchi renamed his Lifetime Achievement award the “Mid-Life” Achievement award, hinting there’s much more to come from the celebrated editor. Taylor Hill presented her “idol,” our very own Editor-in-Chief Nina Garcia, with the Magazine of the Year award.
Rounding out the winners, Hailey Baldwin accepted her award for Fashion Media Personality from Tommy Hilfiger wearing a green beaded gown by the designer. For star wattage, Nicki Minaj presented Winnie Harlow with the Breakthrough Model of the Year Award, and Priyanka Chopra presented the Male Model of the Year Award to Jon Kortajarena.
The night came to a close with emcee Darren Criss hooing us out the door. A fashion week event that unites the industry, inspires change AND ends before 9PM? Yes. Please.
