Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario Might Direct Upcoming Episodes of "The Perfectionists"
Ever since plans for a Pretty Little Liars spinoff were announced, fans have been hopeful that they’d see all of the original Liars at some point on The Perfectionists. Even though the current Freeform series takes us away from Rosewood and into the eerie world of Beacon Heights, it still very much feels like the same PLL universe, especially since the new show includes OG faves Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) and Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish). And while showrunner I. Marlene King has hinted that previous PLL cast members might make cameos in future seasons, it turns out that there’s a whole other way the original crew could get involved.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sasha revealed that her former PLL costars Ashley Benson (who played Hanna Marin) and Troian Bellisario (AKA Spencer Hastings / Alex Drake) might direct episodes in season 2 — if there is a season 2, of course. “We would love to have whoever on the show,” Sasha said, adding that it's been tough to fully align everyone's schedules.
PLL stans will remember that Troian made her directorial debut during the original series’ final season in 2017. The actor also has directing credits on Famous in Love and Good Trouble, and she wrote and produced the film Feed, which she starred in as well.
While also speaking with ET, Ashley noted that she was “really excited” about potentially directing an episode of The Perfectionists, adding how much she was looking forward to reuniting with her PLL family.
Future cameos and directing stints aside, The Perfectionists has been doing a pretty good job of keeping fans in the loop regarding their favorite Rosewood residents. A recent “leaked” text thread between Aria and Ali revealed that Aria and Ezra welcomed a baby (!!!) and the second episode of the spinoff also dropped some pretty epic bombs for Spoby and Haleb fans. It’s clear that the spirit of PLL is very much alive; after all, that's immortality, my darling!
