Art on the Square artist Spotlight: Catherine Chmiel-Goetzinger

May 22—GREENSBURG — Catherine Chmiel Goetzinger is a new collage artist at the Art on the Square Gallery and her paintings and multi-media works in glued paper and fabric stretch the definition of expression in the local art scene.

Goetzinger cuts the pieces for her collages from magazines and other media that catch her eye, sometimes using full pages of books as her canvas.

She likes to work in small scale, using multiple tiny pieces cut by hand. She allows her topics to predict themselves with her colors following suit, sometimes matching, other times contrasting.

Her watercolors are painted on pages cut from books and glued to canvas, with an orange butterfly and a simple fox on the pages of a dictionary defining them.

Art on the Square Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday abd Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
