Now through June 9, visitors to downtown Neenah will see 35 tree beds decorated by businesses and organizations.

Hosted by Future Neenah, “Spring Fling” will feature tree beds on Wisconsin Avenue from The Plaza to the library on both sides of the street filled with art and other items.

A news release stated that in conjunction with the decorated tree beds, the alley next to the Future Neenah office at 135 W. Wisconsin Ave. has been decorated with colorful umbrellas. It has become the backdrop for many selfies and group pictures.

May 14 candlelight vigil honors law enforcement

The Fox Valley Law Enforcement Candlelight Vigil will be held 6 to 8 p.m. May 14 at Appleton Alliance Church, 2693 W. Grand Chute Blvd., Appleton.

The event is a way for the community to honor and pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have died while on duty.

Lieutenant Ryan Williams with the Fond du Lac Police Department will be the keynote speaker.

A social hour with light refreshments will follow

‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ to be presented by Xavier youth

Xavier Children’s Theatre will present “The Emperor’s New Clothes” at 7 p.m. May 17 at Xavier Fine Arts Theatre, 1600 W. Prospect Ave., Appleton.

Directed by Maureen Milbac, the play has been adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller from the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale. The show is approximately 45 minutes and is ideal for children in Pre-K through sixth grade. Children attending are invited to stay for a “talk back” with the cast and director.

Tickets are available online at xaviertheatre.com or 920-733-8840 and at the door one hour before the performance. Educators, including home school groups, may call the box office to get information about school matinees on May 16 and 17.

Exotic pets can be surrendered at May 18 event

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue will host an Exotic Pet Surrender Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18 at the Kimberly Municipal Complex, 515 W. Kimberly Ave.

Pet owners who can no longer care for their fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and plants can surrender them at the event with no questions asked. Domestic pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, and chickens will not be accepted.

The surrender event is held in partnership with the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance, Winnebago Waterways, and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes, to prevent pets from being released into the wild.

All surrendered pets will undergo a brief quarantine and evaluation period before becoming available for adoption.

Radiate event to honor those who inspire youth

SPIRITUS Ministries will host Radiate, a celebration for those who inspire youth in the Church, at 4 p.m. May 18. it begins with a Mass at St. Mary, Menasha, led by Bishop Ricken, followed by a gala at Waverly Beach.

Attendees can enjoy games, a live and silent auction, and a raffle with a chance to win $5,000. Awards also will be presented during the event including Bishop Ricken receiving the Heart of Jesus award to honor his 15 years of contributions to the mission of SPIRITUS/Mount Tabor Center.

SPIRITUS Ministries has served for 15 years, inspired over 76,000 youth, and formed 140 young adults as leaders, according to a news release.
