It’s a bold move to launch a print magazine in today’s increasingly online world, but last night’s celebration proved that the right supporters can make all the difference. After 97 years of circulation overseas, it was high time for L’Officiel to cross the pond into America, much to the pleasure of Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark—the unmistakable couple behind fine-jewelry makers Chrome Hearts. The two played hosts for the evening, opening the upper floor of their Meatpacking District boutique to fete the magazine’s first issue.

The space was complete with ample dining and dancing room, as well as a full kitchen fit for a world-class chef. “I want to cook here every night,” said chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten as he reviewed the menu he created for the evening, which included a range of greatest hits from the star chef’s many eateries in Manhattan and beyond. “We are going to start a little healthy with some salads, but then we have fried chicken for the main course,” he explained. “We like to have fun.”

Inside what some return guests refer to as the “Chrome Hearts clubhouse,” fun was certainly had by all. The expansive private space is wholly owned by the widely loved Los Angeles–based brand, meaning just about anything goes, far away from prying eyes and selfie seekers. Revelers included Fenty Corp creative director Jahleel Weaver, model Charlotte McKinney, and trusted Kardashian confidante and makeup artist Joyce Bonelli.

“I’ve never seen anyone bring people together like Richard and Laurie do,” said Bonelli. The Chrome Hearts design duo also brought out Vera Wang, John McEnroe, and photographer Mick Rock. “There are artists, photographers, musicians, and actors, but it’s all very organic. It’s something I’ve never seen from another brand or company. People gravitate toward them, and I wear them every day. My favorite thing to do is wear their rings on every finger. I’m not afraid to stack them!”

But the most buzzed about couple of the night was certainly Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, who arrived with palpable Oscar buzz surrounding them. Chalamet had come directly from the airport, sporting a baseball cap and leather trench, and sat alongside his Call Me by Your Name costar and model Sonia Ben Ammar.

“He’s a fantastic human being,” said Hammer, who covers the first issue of L’Officiel USA, of 22-year-old Chalamet. “He’s so fun to be around, he’s an incredible performer, an amazing artist, and one of the most emotionally intelligent human beings I’ve ever met, not to mention how young he is. We just get along really well. We’re really lucky.”

Hammer was also joined by his wife, Bird Bakery founder Elizabeth Chambers, who opted to pair her apricot-colored Hugo Boss blazer with a piped running pant. It was a subtle homage to her husband’s recent obsession with the tracksuit—a sartorial choice made on his own, much to the chagrin of his longtime stylist Ilaria Urbinati but to the pleasure of many Internet meme makers. “I think the ultimate thing that prompted me to start wearing tracksuits was a case of the fuck-its,” he said with a laugh. “You know, if I’m going to be doing all of this shit, I might as well be comfortable.”
