He might be best known for his fashion empire, but Giorgio Armani has a storied cinematic history. The legend's created costumes for more than one hundred films, starting with Richard Gere in American Gigolo, Jodie Foster in Elysium, and Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street; the list goes on and on.

Fans of the designer are in for a special treat with his next endeavor, the J.C. Chandor-directed A Most Violent Year. Set in New York City in 1981, the height of the city's most violent crime wave, the film stars Jessica Chastain as a forlorn wife whose husband’s (played by the amazing Oscar Isaac) nefarious activities land him in hot water with the feds. To properly channel a mobster's wife, Chastain and acclaimed costume designer Kasia Wilicka-Maimone traveled to Milan to pull from the Armani archives. The Oscar-nominated actress exclusively wears the brand throughout the film, showing off fluid crepe blouses and trouser combos, strapless evening gowns, bejeweled boleros, and the wrap trench coat she wears above. Her long blonde bob (so Michelle Pfieffer in Scarface), a classic red lip, and long press-on nails complete the look.

“This wonderful film project had great appeal to me because it is set in a time frame when women’s clothing was being revolutionized,” Armani says. “Minimalism was a shocking new concept. The power suit was just beginning to find its way into the wardrobes of the most confident women. Jessica Chastain is a very charming woman and I find that she always wears my clothes perfectly, with great, nonchalant ease.”

Crime, drama, and Armani? We’re in. Catch A Most Violent Year in theaters on December 31st.
