Getting the chance to play the role of Ariel has been a dream come true for singer and actress Halle Bailey. In less than two months, the 22-year-old star will make her underwater debut in the live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

PureWow recently sat down with Bailey to discuss her partnership with ZYRTEC (the brand’s Beat the Mondays Tour just kicked off) and talk about her upcoming movie The Little Mermaid.

During the 95th Academy Awards, fans had a chance to see the first official trailer for the film. And according to Bailey, when the trailer premiered, she was “very nervous.”

“I was very, very nervous. [But] very, very excited,” she told PureWow. “I’ve been working on this project for a very long time. I auditioned when I was 18 and I’m turning 23 in two weeks. So, it’s been a long time coming, the filming journey, everything. And I’m so happy people are finally getting to see what we worked so hard on come out.”

Prior to the trailer debut, audiences had a chance to see Bailey, with her red locks and all, singing the iconic tune “Part of Your World” in the very first teaser released by Disney. And for Bailey, the song has had a special place in her heart since she was little.

When asked about her favorite song to sing in The Little Mermaid, Bailey said, “It definitely was ‘Part of Your World’ and the reason being because that song means so much to me. [It] meant so much to me when I was a little girl, and that was what I would sing at the top of my lungs.”

She continued, “I would pretend I was singing, being her in the pool. So, you know, it's very exciting to get to remake, like this childhood fantasy in your head, you know?”

While discussing her recent partnership with ZYRTEC, Bailey (who has been a longtime allergy sufferer) said, “I didn’t really notice a lot of my allergy symptoms until I moved to California, where it’s very dry. So, it’s a beautiful thing today to be partnering with ZYRTEC.”
