Ariana Grande's rumored boyfriend and Wicked co-star Ethan Slater has officially filed for divorce from wife Lilly Jay.
On the evening of July 26, TMZ obtained court documents that show the Broadway actor filed divorce papers on Wednesday. No specific reason for the divorce has been shared yet.
Slater and Jay met in high school and officially started their relationship in 2012. They married in November 2018 after six years together. To fans, the couple seemed strong, with Slater writing an Instagram post (which is now unavailable, as his profile is private) to commemorate their 10th anniversary of being together in 2022, referring to Jay as his "best friend." They also welcomed their first child that year.
The actor's divorce filing comes a week after news broke of him dating Grande amid the pop star's separation from estranged husband Dalton Gomez.
A source told TMZ that Jay was allegedly shocked by Slater's decision to call it quits and is "devastated" that they won't get to raise their son as a family. Grande also reportedly would hang out with Jay and Slater as a couple, which left Jay feeling "betrayed and heartbroken" upon hearing the news.
Another source told the tabloid, "It's understandable that emotions are high and it's hard seeing your ex move on, especially in such a public way, and her friends are trying to protect her. But Ari and Ethan are just trying to lay low and be respectful of their exes as they pursue this new relationship."
