From ELLE

Ariana Grande's new music era began at midnight, and it's starting with a love song. Grande released her single "Positions" from her new album of the same name, coming out later this month. While the singer's music video for the single imagines her as the President of the United States, the song's lyrics are about being very in love—and getting serious in a relationship.

It seems to reflect Grande's own life, as the singer has been quietly dating and quarantining with Los Angeles real estate agent Dalton Gomez since at least February 2020. Lyrics like "Perfect, perfect / You're too good to be true (You're too good to be true)" and "Heaven sent you to me / I'm just hopin’ I don't repeat history" echo what's been reported about what a great partner Gomez has been to her and how much Grande adores him and doesn't want the relationship to fail the way her previous ones with ex-fiancé Pete Davidson and others did. The line "Boy, I'm tryna meet your mama on a Sunday" also reflects reporting that Grande and Gomez's relationship isn't causal anymore.

In August, a source told Us Weekly that Gomez and Grande had become quite serious—and Grande recognizes, as she put it in the song, "too good to be true" traits in Gomez that she hadn't encountered before.

"Ariana sees something different in Dalton that she has never seen before in guys she has previously dated," the outlet's source said.

“He is the type of guy she has been looking for,” the source added. “He’s very protective of her, will go out of his way for her and does little things that are chivalrous. Dalton will go above and beyond to meet her needs.”

“Their relationship is serious,” the source said. “They’ve fallen madly in love with each other.”

Verse 1
Heaven sent you to me
I'm just hopin’ I don't repeat history

Pre-Chorus

Boy, I'm tryna meet your mama on a Sunday
Then make a lotta love on a Monday (Ah, ah)
Never need no (No), no one else, babe
’Cause I'll be

Chorus

Switchin' the positions for you
Cookin' in the kitchen and I'm in the bedroom
I'm in the Olympics, way I'm jumpin' through hoops
Know my love infinite, nothin’ I wouldn’t do
That I won't do, switchin’ for you

Verse 2

Perfect, perfect
You're too good to be true (You're too good to be true)
But I get tired of runnin', fuck it
Now, I’m runnin' with you (With you)

Then make a lotta love on a Monday (Ah, ah)
