Ariana Grande Thinks Those TikTok Impressions of Her Are "Degrading"

Ariana Grande has a bone to pick with the ponytail-wearing impostors of the internet.

On Wednesday night, in a since-deleted post to her Instagram story, the singer shared a video of actor and writer Jordan Firstman doing his “impression of a meme” (slide three). In it, Firstman jokes, “Okay, wait, wait, I have an idea: What if we, like, we took like a moment, like a small clip from a movie or a TV show; something that like, an artist like really poured their soul into, and like, it just like took them years to make, and it was like an uphill battle the entire time, and then when they finally got the financing it was like, they made it! Like what if we took a moment from that and we kind of like, recontextualize it, like does that make sense, and like we put a completely arbitrary meaning onto that thing that the artist loves so much, kind of like degrading like its entire value? I just think that could be ind of a fun like bitchy thing to do. I'm like I'm so bored. I just kind of want to ruin someone's life today. And then whoever can just say it's theirs. Anyone can just steal it then. That could be fun, right?"

Grande added her own commentary to the video, writing, “Omg can this please also double as your impression of the pony tail tik tok girls who think doing the cat valentine voice and that wearing winged eyeliner and a sweatshirt is doing a good impersonation of me … cause this really how it feels … 'degrading it’s [sic] entire value' I screamed."

While Ariana Grande TikTok impressions is hardly an untapped market and its unclear who she is talking about, there’s one impersonator who’s particularly prominent: Paige Niemann.

In fact, Grande previously commented on a viral impression from Niemann in late 2019, tweeting, “i just wonder whyyyy the cat voice / dialogue. i am sure she is the sweetest sweet sweetheart forreal !! but it’s definitley bizarre seeing people blend the two worlds lmao.”

A couple weeks later, Niemann told Entertainment Tonight that Grande had reached out to her personally. "She said, 'I'm flattered.' She wanted to let me know that I am beautiful in my own way and I said, 'Thank you and thank you for being so kind to me.' And she said, 'I'm proud of you,’” she told the outlet.
