  • Ariana Grande is making it clear that she does not like it when people impersonate her as Cat Valentine on TikTok.

  • In fact, Ari thinks it’s “degrading” the value of what she does as an artist.

Okay, so, like...pretend for a sec that you’re a wildly famous celebrity and then a bunch of people on the internet tried making a living by copying your image and likeness. Sounds...irritating, right? Welp, this is what Ariana Grande has to go through on a daily basis. And if that wasn’t bad enough already, Ari’s impersonators often combine her personality traits with that of her Victorious character, Cat Valentine. Thankfully, Ari’s now letting everyone know just how much she dislikes this.

On Instagram, Ari reposted a video of filmmaker Jordan Firstman doing “impressions.” But in one of the videos, Jordan took a moment to criticize meme makers for trivializing moments that are critical to an artist’s career and flipping them to make something else that lacks meaning.

“What if we, like, we took a moment, like a small clip from a movie or a TV show. Something that, like, an artist really poured their soul into and it, like, it just took them years to make....What if we took a moment from that and we kind of, like, recontextualized it—like, does that make sense? And we put a completely arbitrary meaning onto that thing that the artist loves so much? Kind of, like, degrading its entire value,” he said.

Ari completely agreed with this sentiment and fired some shots at the girls who copy her look and impersonate her on social media. “Omg can this please also double as your impression of the ponytail TikTok girls who think doing that Cat Valentine voice and that wearing winged eyeliner and a sweatshirt is doing a good impersonation of me...’cause this really how it feels...” she said, adding, “‘Degrading its entire value’ I screamed.”

Ari ended up deleting the post from her Insta Story, but the message is loud and clear. She isn’t a fan! Last year, Ari admitted she thought the behavior was “bizarre” when TikTok star Paige Neimann went viral for impersonating her. “I just wonder whyyyy the Cat voice/dialogue. I am sure she is the sweetest sweet sweetheart forreal !! but it’s definitley [sic] bizarre seeing people blend the two worlds lmao,” she wrote.

Hopefully, we see a decline of people online impersonating Ari in the future!
