Ariana Grande Stars in Givenchy’s Newest Campaign

ARIVENCHY is officially here!

Last month, Givenchy teased their newest spokesperson and collaborator with merely the silhouette of a sky-high ponytail. We knew immediately who the creative partner was as the ponytail so ubiquitous it might as well be copyrighted to none other than Ariana Grande. Nonetheless, we couldn't wait to see what the famed fashion house, which is led by Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller, would drum up in collaboration with the savvy "Thank U, Next" singer.

Aptly titled #ARIVENCHY, a word we have no clue how to pronounce, portraits from the Fall-Winter 2019-2020 campaign were finally released yesterday on Instagram. Taken by photographer Craig McDean, the images are meant to exude the history of Givenchy and embody its "signature spirit" which the brand describes as, "an elegant attitude informed by beauty, individuality and a sense of empowerment." Nodding to the house's founder, Hubert de Givenchy, the photos of Ariana are done in the style of “the Givenchy sitting" — a type of portraiture favored by the OG designer.

In the photos, the singer dons looks from the runway collection including a floral print dress, a bright green tailored outfit with interesting shoulder details, and a crocodile purse (the brand's fall statement bag called the Eden), and a dramatic off-the-shoulder evening look. Ariana’s famous ponytail still takes center stage while she also dons a sharp cat-eye and subtle matte lipstick.

The photographs, which were shot from below, are truly stunning. They seem to express a vulnerable and strong POV, something that comes natural to Ari — just last week, the August Vogue cover star told the magazine, “...it’s hard to sing songs that are about wounds that are so fresh. It’s fun, it’s pop music, and I’m not trying to make it sound like anything that it’s not, but these songs to me really do represent some heavy shit.” Get ready to spot these powerful images all over the September glossies.
