  • Ariana Grande just spent Thanksgiving with both of her parents for the first time in 18 years.

  • Ariana and her dad, Edward Butera, have been estranged following a “private” falling out.

How was your Thanksgiving? I think mine would best be described by the words “pie” and “halp.” Meanwhile, Ariana Grande celebrated the holiday with her family—and by that I mean her mom, Joan Grande, and her dad, Edward Butera.

The singer wandered over to Instagram Stories to chronicle her Thanksgiving, sharing a photo of herself with her parents, which she captioned, “first Thanksgiving with both of my parents in 18 years.”

Ariana’s parents split when she was young, and she actually talked about it in lyrics from “thank u, next.” Check it:

“One day, I’ll walk down the aisle / Holding hands with my mama / I’ll be thanking my dad / ’Cause she grew from the drama / Only wanna do it once, real bad / Gon’ make that shit last / God forbid something happens / Least this song is a smash”

Ariana has had a strained relationship with her dad for years, and she opened up about it to Seventeen in 2014, saying, “It’s private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it. The thing that got me there was embracing the fact that I am made up of half my dad and a lot of my traits come from him. So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay not to get along with somebody and still love them.”

That said, Ariana wished her dad a happy Father’s Day in 2017:

And clearly, she’s in a better place with him today. Yay for family bonding in the name of pie.
