Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Get Pink Razr Flip Phones

Apple may be releasing new a iPhone X in early September, but Ariana Grande seemingly couldn't care less. If her Instagram Stories are any indication, she’s more interested in a throwback classic — the iconic Motorola Razr.

The coveted gadget from the mid-2000s was quite possibly the first “fashionable” cell phone, due to its signature pink case. Everyone wanted a Razr back in the day, and it appears that even pop stars of today aren’t immune to its nostalgic charms.

Ariana posted a few photos to her Story of various Razrs; it appears she’s got two, one for herself and one for fiancé Pete Davidson, and a quick Google search reveals that they’re readily available online for less than $50. Ari’s phones are obviously pink, though the Razr also came in a light silver and a charcoal black-grey, as well as hot pink and blue-grey. The Razr is pretty far from a smartphone; those of us (this writer included) who had the phone could only text verrrrry slowly (remember T9?), snap grainy pics and get MIDI files to play as our ringtones, but you definitely couldn’t scroll through Instagram, check up on tweet, or FaceTime anybody.

Motorola has actually released images of a NEW 2018 Razr, but it appears Ariana is much more comfortable with the throwback version. She and Pete have talked about taking breaks from social media in the past, so the Razrs could be a way to stay in touch without opting for a smartphone, or to help break the habit of reaching for a phone when they’re bored. And to be honest, the phones themselves are just cute and fun, despite the fact that Pete can’t make his ringtone “Pete Davidson” and Ari can’t post photos of her dog Toulouse to Instagram with a Razr. Is a Razr Renaissance about to take over the country? Probably not. But this matching mobile phone moment is pretty adorable indeed.
