  • A TikToker noticed that Ariana had cricket noises in two tracks on her recent album, Positions.

  • The TikToker says the cricket noises are made after Ari sings lines about heaven and are meant to honor Mac Miller and his song “Crickets.”

It’s no secret that Mac Miller occupies a huge spot in Ariana Grande’s heart. The two dated from 2016 to early 2018, but after his tragic passing later that year, Ari’s world changed forever. Now, Ari finds a way to insert bits and pieces of Mac into her music when she can as a way to honor him, and she did exactly that in her Positions title track, according to a TikToker with an impressive ear.

TikToker @MaraleeBell noted that cricket sounds can be heard in “Positions” after Ariana sings the lyric “heaven sent you to me” as well as in “Just Like Magic” when she sings, “Take my pen and write some love letters to heaven.” @MaraleeBell says that the usage of crickets isn’t purely coincidental—Mac posthumously released a song called “Crickets” earlier this year.

Twitter users shortly started picking up on the subtle usage of Ari’s cricket instrumentals, with one fan writing, “I just found out that in Ariana’s new album, she plays cricket noises every time a line has the word ‘heaven,’ which is a tribute to Mac Miller’s song ‘Crickets’ bc she thinks of him as her guardian angel watching over her from heaven…I am not okay no one talk to me for the next week.” Saaaaame.

Friendly reminder: Ari also sang about Mac on “Thank U, Next” and said, “Wish I could say thank you to Malcom / ’Cause he was an angel.”

Ari’s album has been out for less than a month, but I can’t wait to see what other juicy tidbits fans find the longer they stream!
