Ariana Grande Made God a Dark Skin Woman For MTV VMA Performance
Ariana Grande pulled out all the stops for her godly performance of "God Is a Woman" at the 2018 MTV VMAs. But what made this performance all the sweeter was the army of dancers that surrounded her on stage: a dark skin Jesus and a mini reunion with some of the most important women in her life: her mother, grandmother, and cousin.
While the official video saw Ariana soaking up a Lush bath-bomb-like pool of water, her VMA performance was packed with religious themes, from The Last Supper dinner table to regal costumes featuring crowns and thorns. Ariana donned an embellished gold ensemble with matching gold thigh-high boots.
Ariana's message of female empowerment strengthened towards the end of her performance when she was joined on stage by the powerful females in her own life, Joan Grande (mother), Lani Grande (cousin), and Marjorie "Nonna" Grande (grandmother).
Grande was nominated for five different categories. Earlier in the night, she won best pop award for “No Tears Left to Cry” and thanked her beau, Pete Davidson, for simply "existing." The lovebirds were all touchy-feely for their official red carpet debut, from hugging to kissing to smiling-everything.
