Ariana Grande and Halsey Texting Each Other About Their Hit Songs Is #FriendshipGoals
If we had to pick a theme for 2018, women championing other women would have to be near the top of the list. From Hollywood to Washington, D.C., we keep seeing examples that prove the tired, old tropes about catfights, comparisons, and jealousy wrong.
Latest case in point: Ariana Grande and Halsey's supportive pop-star friendship. The two women are, quite literally, at the top of their careers right now (so far, that is): Grande's latest song "thank u, next" became her first single to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Halsey's "Without You" just hit No. 1 on iTunes, knocking Grande from the perch.
But there's no animosity between the two: Grande even shared a sweet text conversation between the two superstars on her Instagram Stories. In it, Halsey writes: “Honestly just happy it’s us rn. The ladies need us. Time for an uprising.” She adds, “Attention world: we are no longer taking ur shit.” Grande then replies: “AT ALL.”
Both women have gone through very public breakups of late (Grande with Pete Davidson and Halsey with G-Eazy), so it's great to see them looking out for each other—and celebrating the amazing music that often comes from emotional struggles. “It’s like this is really me talking about my life. It kind of gave me like an existential crisis as an artist a little bit, because I’ve prided myself on being an artist who’s authentic and writes about her life and all that stuff," Halsey has said of her hit song. "And then when I made this, and I felt just how bad it hurt.”
The singers' exchange is wonderful, but each of the women has made a point to support other women in music by standing up for their fellow female artists, even when the press tries to pit them against each other. Back in 2017, Halsey and Demi Lovato squashed rumors of a feud with one Instagram post. And nobody has Nicki Minaj's back like Grande.
Now that we know how tight these two are, could a music collaboration be far behind? Fingers crossed.
