Justin Bieber has returned to the stage after nearly two years away from it, all thanks to Ariana Grande. The Biebs made a guest appearance during her Coachella set last night, where he sang "Sorry" with Grande.

He also addressed the crowd, telling them that seriously, he did not expect to be there. "I haven’t been on stage in like, two years," he started. "I came out here, I had no idea I’d be on this stage tonight. Absolutely no idea."

"True story," Grande chimed in.

"So anyway, this is my first time on stage in like, two years. So I had to get my groove back, I have to get my swag back, you know what I’m saying. So thank you so much, Coachella. Thank you much to Ariana Grande. Thank you so much, man, and by the way, album coming soon."

July 2017 was the last time Bieber was on stage. Then, the Biebs canceled the rest of his Purpose world tour-a tour he had been on for over a year-to get some rest and "ride some bikes." He hasn't performed live on any major concert stage since.

Bieber's announcement about new music comes after he explained on Instagram why he was taking his time making it. He wrote:

So I read a lot of messages saying you want an album .. I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that, you pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour. I have been looking, seeking, trial and error as most of us do, I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be. Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health. I will come with a kick ass album ASAP, my swag is undeniable and my drive is indescribable his love is supernatural his grace is that reliable.... the top is where I reside period whether I make music or not the king said so. 👑 but I will come with a vengeance believe that.. (grammar and punctuation will be terrible pretend it’s a text where u just don’t care).

He was reported to be "shocked" at the reaction people had to his post, especially those who saw it as him announcing he was taking a break from music. Bieber had written that he would have "a kick ass album [out] ASAP," which The Blast reported means later this year.
