Ariana Grande Is Going Back to Her Acting Roots
These days, Ariana Grande wears a lot of hats: She’s a global pop star, impression wizard, Vogue cover girl, and Givenchy campaign star—just to name a few of her ventures. But before all of that, many fans know the singer got her big break on Victorious, playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon sitcom until 2013. Since then, Grande has put her acting career on pause, despite a brief cameo on the short-lived series Scream Queens (she was killed off in the first episode). But it seems that she’s now making a new return to her TV roots.
Today, Grande announced that she will make an appearance on the upcoming season of Kidding, the Golden Globe–nominated comedy series that stars Jim Carrey. And the choice of co-star is fitting for Grande—the pop star happens to be a huge fan of the actor. She claims her first AIM username was jimcarreyfan42, and in April, the two even exchanged some kind words on Twitter. Grande thanked him for being so candid about mental health and said he is “such an inspiration” to her. Carrey, in return, wished her “freedom and peace.” Taking her fangirl to the next level, she even has a tattoo of a quote from one of Carrey’s movies, The Truman Show, which reads, “In case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight!”
On Instagram, Grande wrote of co-starring with Carrey on Kidding: “Nothing is crazier than getting to work with and spend time with someone whom you’ve idolized and adored since before you could speak. Actually, what’s even crazier is discovering that person to be more special and warm and generous in person than you ever could’ve imagined.” While not much is known about her role, Grande admitted her cameo on the show is “tiny.” She is seen in full character in the photo, wearing a pair of wings (and her signature high ponytail is there, too). “I have so much more to say but words actually can’t .... cover it,” Grande wrote.
