Pete Davidson certainly made a sizable investment when he commissioned a custom engagement ring for his love, Ariana Grande, from a New York City-based jeweler in May.

Grande, who first started dating Davidson several weeks ago, seemingly confirmed her engagement via social media late Monday, June 11, after multiple outlets reported the surprising relationship update. While the news broke this week, Grande already hinted at the engagement in early June when she was spotted out and about with a flashy new stone on her left ring finger, which according to TMZ is, indeed, her engagement ring.

The SNL personality reportedly approached Mr. Flawless, Greg Yuna, to customize the ring in May. The jeweler corroborated the reporting by posting an Instagram Story linking to TMZ’s article, which revealed key details about the ring from sources close to the newly engaged pair.

The pear-shape diamond itself is a VVS1 clarity, 3.03 carat stone that is set on a diamond platinum band. The outlet reported that the ring was custom-designed specifically for Grande and required two weeks of work before the SNL comedian was able to propose. It also features a tiny halo of diamonds with the total value of the piece valued at around $93,000.

To put things into context, the national average size of a ring is 1.8 carats, according to The Knot Jewelry & Engagement Study, with the average spend in 2017 being $6,351. That wasn’t the only category where Grande and Davidson ditched the average. While the average time spent looking for a ring is 3.5 months, Davidson spent 1/7 of the time securing a piece for the “Dangerous Woman” songstress.

Yuna is rather big in the music industry and the celebrity world, boasting of clients like Drake, 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather (who was the one to nickname the jeweler Mr. Flawless). In a 2015 interview with the New York Post, Yuna revealed his backstory and how Jacob Arabo (known as Jacob the Jeweler) inspired his work.

“I don’t like gaudy,” Yuna said at the time. “I watched what Jacob did and saw how his stuff was really clean and the quality of stones were good. I don’t skimp out. I handpick the stones. I know what it costs to do something right.”
