Ariana Grande's "God Is a Woman" Music Video Is Full of Vagina References

Let's run through some of them.

Ariana Grande has officially unveiled her music video for new single "God Is a Woman." The video, directed by Dave Meyers, was released just hours after the single, and is filled with can't miss moments and imageries that left fans mystified.

Throughout the video, Ariana is quite literally larger than life as the center of the universe, takes time to dance among members of a choir dressed in white robes, deflects hateful words thrown at her by a group of animated men, and even swims in a sea of pastel colors that mirror a Georgia O'Keefe painting. Fans have immediately reacted to the stunning visuals, saying it caused some serious emotions, and quite aptly, that "GOD IS A WOMAN AND IT'S ARIANA GRANDE."

Along with social media support for the video, others have also picked up something else: plenty of vagina references. And as Twitter followers of Ariana know, it looks like that the pop icon might have even been foreshadowing all the imagery in the music video. On Thursday when asked by a fan what her favorite word was, she replied with "pussy." She had also told fans on Twitter that she knew some wouldn't quite get her artistic intentions with the track, writing, "i was expecting it and of course understand it ... but it’s art. it’s okay if not everybody understands everything i do. i’m grateful for the opportunity to be myself and inspire others to do that as well. I would rather do that than play it safe."

For those that might not completely understand the music video, we thought it'd be useful to simply run through some of the vagina references in "God Is a Woman." Here they are:

Ariana dancing in a pool of paint

Many viewers have pointed out that one moment of the music video appears to have Ariana swimming inside of a vagina. While this user wasn't sure if the scene was "meant to be a vagina or am i seeing things," this person appeared to be more certain, writing, "IT'S CLEARLY ARIANA IN A VAGINA!!" We definitely see it.

The huge open legs

In this scene, Ariana danced beneath a pair of open legs that had golden light radiating behind them. Users were particularly impressed by the display of "pussy power," writing, "THE OPEN LEGS WOW ARIANA" and "Ariana singing in front of a god-sized pair of open legs is my aesthetic."

Lotus pose

Social media also picked up on a scene that had Ariana seated and making a lotus pose with her fingers. "All these pussy references Ariana really was serious when she said pussy is a privilege," one user tweeted. Another person noted how the particular clip was a clear display of "Ariana’s confidence and femininity."

Creation of Eve

In addition to her own original imagery, Ariana also appeared to include scenes influenced by past art, including her take on Michelangelo's famous painting "The Creation of Adam," which is part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. In Ariana's version, she is God and she is giving creation to women, or Eve. Michelangelo's iconic artwork isn't the only historical reference in the video. The "God Is a Woman" clip also included the singer's version of the Romulus and Remus symbol, a piece noted in Roman mythology.

Controlling a hurricane

Count on Ariana to also control the elements and use a force of nature in this empowering video. Twitter users noted how the image of her atop the world was particularly "powerful,", and joked that the singer had the godlike ability to create and control natural disasters.

As Ariana previously said in a tweet, this track is about "sexual female empowerment & how women are literally everything & the universe is inside of us tbh." And we totally see that played out in the music video.
