Arapahoe Basin Resumes Snowmaking- When Will They Open?

As of today, October 4th, Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, has begun snowmaking in earnest.

The resort saw a wet bulb temperature of 24 degrees Fahrenheit this morning -- wet bulb is a measure that factors in air moisture and temperature -- creating near-optimal conditions for snowmaking up and down the High Noon ski run.

Yesterday, A-Basin saw a snowstorm which, according to a resort representative, provided "us with a great base that we were able to build on today."

Arapahoe Basin

As noted in a Powder article published yesterday, A-Basin is currently in contention for first tracks with another Colorado-based ski resort known for its early opening dates: Loveland Ski Area. Loveland, like A-Basin, has opened as early as mid-October in the past.

Loveland began snowmaking yesterday. However, A-Basin usually eeks out a slightly earlier opening date than Loveland, so despite the head start, Loveland will likely open a few days later than A-Basin.

Ultimately, though, there are no losers with this race -- just two resorts working hard to give us skiers what we want: October turns.

While A-Basin hasn't announced an official opening date, the resort representative reports that they plan to open "ASAP." You know the drill: snowdances. Keep doing them.
