Arapahoe Basin Dispels Opening Day Rumor And Tempers Expectations

Excitement about the potential for Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Colorado to open this week seemed to spread like wildfire amongst skiers and riders from coast to coast.

The ski area received a big helping of natural snowfall from Mother Nature last week and was able to crank their snow guns for 48+ hours during an "incredible" snowmaking weather window.

A rumor that Arapahoe Basin would open on Sunday, October 22nd apparently started to make the rounds online. Unfortunately, the weather has shifted and the ski area does not have a targeted opening day just yet. Check out the Instagram post below:

From the caption:

"While we do not have an opening date for you just yet, we try to open as soon as possible so that you can make the most out of your winter. That's a very short timeframe to flip a whole resort. Snowmaking is commonly known as one of the first signs of winter, but our entire staff from lift maintenance to our restaurants are hard at work all off season long."

Arapahoe Basin used the social post as opportunity to dispel the aforementioned October 22nd opening day rumors.

The account responded to multiple comments to confirm that the rumor had no basis in actuality. See the screenshot below:

The National Weather Service is forecasting highs along Loveland Pass to remain in the 50s and 60s for the next week. Not ideal for trying to open a ski area.

Skiers will need to wait patiently for a change in temps before Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, and Keystone are able to really get the snow guns cranking again.

Fear not, friends. Arapahoe Basin has committed to opening "as soon as the weather permits".
