Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, Will Remain Open Into June
The Coloradan ski season lives on. Arapahoe Basin Ski Area—known affectionately by locals as “A-Basin”—confirmed this morning that it will remain open into June.
“We do not have a closing date to announce quite yet,” A-Basin wrote on Facebook. “Once we reach the end of May, operations will be assessed on a week-by-week basis based on conditions.”
A representative of A-Basin told POWDER via email that "it's too early" to predict an exact closing date for the resort.
While the resort received nearly a foot of fresh snow yesterday, warmer, more spring-like conditions are expected this week. According to the representative, Zuma Bowl, Pali, The Front Side, and The East Wall are all open and "skiing great."
Sixty-six inches of snow are still on A-Basin's slopes, which aligns the resort with its year-over-year average snow depth wise.
On Mother's Day, A-Basin Chief Operating Officer Alan Henceroth scored fresh tracks after the snowy May reset. "We got to A-Basin early, found first tracks on every run, and had the time of our lives. Nothing like skiing Spring powder," Henceroth wrote in a recent blog post.
A-Basin is home to the longest lift-accessed ski season in Colorado and typically operates from October through June. In 1995, A-Basin kept the lifts spinning until August 10th, marking the resort's latest closing date on record.
Winter Park Resort remains open alongside A-Basin and will offer skiing as long as possible on the Mary Jane portion of its piste.
Breckenridge Ski Resort, another area that was keeping the late-season dream alive in Colorado, decided to call it quits on Sunday, May 12th. "We believe this is the best way to finish the season strong as we look at the long-term forecast and get ready for summer in just one month," Breckenridge wrote on Instagram.
