Arapahoe Basin, Colorado Announces Targeted Closing Date In June

It wasn't an all-time year for snowfall for Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Colorado, but enough fell to keep skiers and snowboarders sliding into June, as is tradition.

A-Basin COO Al Henceroth has just announced via the popular 'Al's Blog' that the ski area will remain open until "at least" Sunday, June 9th, 2024. Full details in the embedded Facebook post below.

The post also confirms that lifts will spin daily through Sunday, June 2nd, close Monday-Thursday, and then reopen Friday, May 7th through Sunday, June 9th.

Henceroth hints at the possibility of another weekend of skiing if, "conditions are still good."

The ski area's iconic 'East Wall' is officially closed for the season due to the warming conditions, but there's still plenty of terrain at your disposal.

An official with A-Basin has provided the following statement to POWDER via email:

"I think the single most important thing for guests to know is to check our Lift & Terrain Status webpage. Our patrol updates this daily when they do their weather report, so it is the most up-to-date and accurate information about what we have going on each day.

We also always want to remind skiers and riders that they should remain vigilant this time of year! Yes, spring skiing brings lots of fun, relaxed days on the Beach. But it also ever-changing spring conditions, from goggle-tans to the occasional storm rolling in, you never really know what you’re going to get. Snow surface conditions can change rapidly and our patrol is constantly monitoring every part of the mountain. Be prepared and most importantly, respect all signage and closures.

With warmer weather, things tend to melt out quickly, and often underneath the surface you can see. Stay inbounds, be aware, use caution, and enjoy some of the very best parts of the season in late spring."

With Arapahoe Basin confirming that they'll stay open into early June, it begs the question- which ski area will be the last standing in the state of Colorado?

A-Basin is joined by nearby Winter Park Resort as the only resorts still open in the state. WP has made it clear that they intend to keep the terrain on Mary Jane open 'As Long As Possible' (ALAP), but will they make it into June? That remains to be seen.

As far as conditions go, both ski areas are supporting respectable bases for late-May. As of May 21, 2024, Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park are reporting base depths of 56 inches and 53 inches, respectively.
