Applebee's Is Mixing Up $1 Mai Tais All August Long
Summer is nearing its end, and the only rational way to grapple with this unavoidable reality is by drinking tropical tiki cocktails while we still can—and a lot of them at that. So it's pretty convenient Applebee's announced its August Neighborhood Drink of the Month as $1 Mai Tais. Looks like we're getting rum-drunk through Labor Day, y'all.
In case you're unfamiliar with the program, let me fill you in. On the first of the month, the chain welcomes a new (super cheap!) cocktail to its drink lineup. We've had the Malibu Dollarmama, that Vodka Raspberry Lemonade, and we can't forget the OG icon, Dollarita.
But this Mai Tai is sounding like the ultimate champ. It's got rum, pineapple, passion fruit, orange, black cherry, AND lime all swirled together in one 10-ounce mug. It's also topped with a cocktail umbrella!
Because Applebee's loves teasing us, they went ahead and hinted at the launch ahead of time, writing, "Any guesses what's shaped like this and tastes like island life?" on Instagram. Fans quickly weighed in with their best guesses. "Please be the #DOLLARMAMA, if it isn't I am going to be greatly upset," one wrote. "Idk but whatever it is im ready for it. Definitely will be there for happy hour tomorrow," another added.
While a few were spot on with Mai Tai predictions, others theorized the new drink might be a Long Island Iced Tea or Piña Colada.

"Tiki cocktails are the hottest drinks of the season," vice president of beverage innovation Patrick Kirk said in a statement: "Drinking our $1 Mai Tai is like getting whisked away to the South Seas without even having to leave the neighborhood."
