Legendary’s lucrative Monsterverse is roaring back to screens with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, premiering November 17 on Apple TV+.

The 10-part series follows on the events of 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, which revealed that the shadowy organization Monarch had been hiding the existence of monsters from mankind. Seeing a bunch of them duke it out across the Bay Area, though, enlightened civilians about the kaiju and giant apes living amongst them.

Legacy of Monsters seems primed to capitalize on that plot twist. The series will span three generations as it follows two siblings who attempt to uncover a family connection to Monarch through their father. Their clues lead them to frightening beasts, and Kurt Russell’s Army officer Lee Shaw. Russell’s son, Wyatt Russell, will be portraying a younger Shaw in flashbacks. The series also stars Kiersey Clemons (The Flash), Anders Holm (Workaholics), and John Goodman, reprising his role of senior Monarch official William Rand from Skull Island.

The slim 70-second teaser features a plethora of promising footage, beginning with Goodman’s urgent voiceover before segueing into shots of Kurt Russell watching home movies of his past. We then see scenes of Wyatt boarding what appears to be a space capsule with “Monarch” printed on the side, as the older Russell gravely intones about a mission to save the world.

Monarch is the second Monsterverse TV series after Netflix’s animated Skull Island premiered in July. The universe launched in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot and rolled into the ludicrously fun Skull Island. With Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong, the series waded into sub-video-game theatrics and massive box office success. They grossed a combined $1.95 billion worldwide. A new theatrical sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is due for release next year.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premieres globally on November 17 via Apple TV+. A new episode will drop every Friday through January 12. You can check out the full teaser trailer below.
