Whether the bra you're wearing has a wire that's digging into your skin, itchy fabric, or simply doesn't provide enough support, I'm here to tell you that your boobs deserve way better. There are tons of lackluster options out there, but there are also tons of amazing, comfortable bra options with support for all kinds of breasts.

"No two sets of breasts are the same. In fact, your left breast can be different from your right breast!" says physician Dr. Navya Mysore, MD. So, if every set of boobs is different, where do you start? "You want to find a bra that is supportive," she says. "That will help with your posture and reduce back pain by lifting and distributing breast tissue in a more even way across your chest." You should also make sure it isn't too tight, she adds.

It's also important to keep in mind that your bra size may periodically change and that is normal. "Bra sizes can change due to weight changes up or down (sometimes as little as five pounds on certain folks will make a difference), pregnancy, menopause, or puberty. Not to mention, breast size can fluctuate weekly if you menstruate," says Kimmay Caldwell, a former bra fitter and undergarment educator at HurrayKimmay.com.

Oh and one more thing—you may also notice that your bra size may change across brands as different brands use different fit methods. "Some old school brands use a +4 method for band sizes [where they round to the nearest whole number], while more modern companies use your exact underbust measurement as a baseline for size," explains Caldwell.

With that being said, there are several signs that will let you know if your bra fits properly or not. "The band should not be riding up your back or sliding down and your breasts should not be billowing out of the cups," says Jené Luciani Sena, bra expert and bestselling author of The Bra Book. Additionally, the straps shouldn't be digging in or sliding down, and the underwire should be flush against the ribcage and not riding up the underside of the breasts."

How do you know if you're wearing the wrong bra size?

It'll feel more uncomfortable than usual. "An ill-fitting bra will have straps that fall off your shoulders, cups that move around and cause irritation, and will have your breasts popping out of them," says Faraj Savarese. "Your bra band should be snug across your back and ALL your breast tissue should be in the cup—with the very front-center of the bra laying flat against your chest," she adds.

While online bra guides are a good place to start, remember that they don't take into account all the variables or the unique shape every set of boobs has, Faraj Savarese explains. (Even your height can affect the fit of your bra). When in doubt, it's always best to try to get an in-person fitting from a bra expert. If you can't, try starting out with a bra with a generous return policy.

What fabric is the best for a comfortable bra?

Fabric is important, too—especially if you're sweat-prone. "You want to find a bra that has moisture-wicking fabric," says Mysore. "That can help reduce the chance of trapping sweat under the breast tissue, which can lead to irritated skin and/or rashes."

Killpack adds that you obviously want a comfy bra with soft fabric. Her personal favorites are made from stretch lace and spacer foam.

Aside from looking good, there's also other benefits to wearing the perfect bra, says Mysore. "It's important to find a bra that you enjoy wearing—feeling comfortable and confident in what you wear [can have] a positive impact on your mental health.

What type of bra is the most comfortable bra?

It is difficult to objectively state what type of bra is the most comfortable–everybody and every body is different.

However, the most comfortable bras typically are the ones that are well-fitted, explains Luciani. Plus, "usually softer materials and components make for a really comfortable bra. In general, those with no wire are cozier, but not for everyone and not always, adds Luciani.

How many bras should I own?

Both Caldwell and Luciani recommend having seven bras to work with. Of these seven you have "two to three great basics that work with 70 percent of your wardrobe, a convertible or strapless bra to work with tricky outfits, a sports bra (or several if you work out a lot), and a wireless bra—or a few—for traveling, errands, or sleep. You should also have another option that serves as a "hurray" bra and "makes you feel like a million bucks," adds Caldwell.

How often should I wash my bra?

There is no hard and fast rule to how often somebody should wash their bra. But the type of bra will affect how often you wash it.

Caldwell recommends washing a bra after every four wears unless it's a sports bra. "Wash sports bras every time if they got sweaty! And PLEASE make sure you never put bras in the dryer," says Caldwell.

The way you wash a bra matters. "Be sure to wash it in a mesh garment bag with cool water using a gentle cycle and gentle detergent. Lay it flat to dry and NEVER put it into the dryer," Luciani says. This will prolong its lifespan and allow it to maintain its natural shape.

Should I wear bras everyday?

Whether or not you wear a bra daily is completely your decision. However, "some folks feel safer or more professional in a bra each day, and many folks feel more comfortable when wearing a bra," explains Caldwell. But again—totally up to you.
